About Reef Jigsaw
A small, quiet puzzle site about the sea: thirty-six pictures, four games and a logbook.
What it is
Reef Jigsaw turns pictures of reefs, kelp forests, tide pools and coastlines into jigsaw, slide, swap and turn puzzles. You can play any picture at any size, follow the 144 numbered dives, or come back each day for the tide. The site works in English, Italian, Hungarian and Finnish.
The pictures
The pictures were generated by computer for this site. They show typical scenes — a turtle over a reef, a lighthouse on a headland — rather than photographs of specific real places, and the texts describe what is actually in each frame. The short field notes give general facts about the animals and places shown.
The numbers on each dive
The colours and the share of plain area on each dive page are measured from the picture's pixels when the site is built. The counts of pieces, tiles, swaps and taps follow from the size of the board.
What the site does not do
There are no accounts, no advertising, no analytics and no prizes. Nothing you do here is sent to a server: saved games, the logbook and streaks stay in your browser.
